This short video illustrates how paper fibre recycling is achieved in Saskatoon.  Provincial and City governments facilitate the recycling process.  Over the years various Mayors, councilors and members of the city administration have helped nurture the relationship between the City of Saskatoon which collects the paper, and Cosmopolitan Industries which processes it.  Due to enlightened choices made in the development of recycling in Saskatoon, city taxpayers enjoy one of the most economical recycling systems in North America.

Our system of recycling materials, source separated/curb sorted collection, is economically robust, efficient, and environmentally friendly.  It produces large amounts of very clean recyclable material at little cost to the taxpayer when compared to single stream recycling systems.  In addition to all these advantages, the participation of intellectually challenged members of the community provides powerful social benefits.  Choice, opportunity and dignity are essential components to Saskatoon’s method of recycling.


Our program participants at Cosmopolitan Industries look to recycling not only as work that they can do, but also work in which they take a great deal of pride.  To them, it is meaningful work.  It is “helping to save the environment.” 

They put heart and soul into their efforts because that is part of the nature of the cognitively challenged.  Recycling gives them a great sense of worth and makes them feel they are contributors to society and the community.
