Supports

Recreation, Leisure & Fitness

Opportunities are offered to all participants based on requests made by the participant in the preparation of thier Annual Goals.  Some of the recreation opportunities offered iclude Day Trips to Mosaic Stadium, Moose Jaw Tunnels and Batoche.  Daily we offer outings to restaurants, movies, Eastview Bowl or mall walking.  In addition, we offer varius classes that promote fitness and a healthy lifestyle such as dancing, floor hockey and sit and stretch.

Each participant is given the option of involvement in literacy and learning opportunities.

Lifeskills Training

Provides support for those individuals with the greatest needs and focuses primarily towards enhancing quality of life.  The staff provides in-house recreational activities based on the participant’s skills, needs, interests and goals.  While we bring the community into Cosmo, the participants also have the opportunity to partake in numerous outings in the community.

Seniors

Attendance in the Seniors Program can be on a full-time, part-time or drop-in basis.  The program offers daily activity including a small vocational program, avocational activities and cultural experiences.  A partnership has been established with St. Michael School and the seniors enjoy many guest speakers and presentations.  Most months, our seniors enjoy an outing such as to the Berry Barn, a library or a mall to walk and have coffee.

Some of the classes offered this year include cooking, computers, reading, math, time telling, printing, money skills and Xperiential (Virtual Reality Computer Program.)  The number and variety of these classes are limited by availability of staff and volunteers.

In addition, through money provided by the Community Grant Program funded by the Saskatchewan Lotteries Trust Fund and the City of Saskatoon, we were able to coordinate special performances at Cosmo, such as a Johnny Cash impersonator, and hire a coordinator to ensure many participants had the opportunity to attend various concerts and other evening activites in Saskatoon.

Transportation

Transporting 400 participants to and from Cosmo each day is a major undertaking in which we work closely with First Student Canada and Saskatoon Transit Services.  This year, we saw the addition of another chartered bus to accommodate our changing needs and expanding city.  In total we operate 19 bus runs per day

Satellite Day Programs

Are an extension of the Cosmo program offered at Kinsmen Manor, Sherbrooke Community Centre and Parkridge Centre and are provided for the convenience of participants who reside at these centres.

Personal Care & Health

The Personal Care staff, including a trained health care professional, administers medication, tends to minor injury or illness and provides personal care support for the participants at Cosmo.

A significant investment in equipment allows participants a greater degree of dignity and independence in meeting personal care needs in the area of personal hygiene.  We are appreciative of the Sit/Stand Lift provided by Kinsmen Telemiracle.

Our therapies program continues to work closely with the Saskatoon Health Region in offering both Occupational and Physical Therapy support.  Follow up and programs are offered at Cosmo based on the participant’s needs as assessed.

Pathways to Opportunity

Focuses on finding a balance between vocational and quality of life activities that meet the needs of each participant.  Cosmo promotes skill development and independence through this smaller group setting.  These participants enjoy a number of community-based outings
